What does “Mass-Production of this Pattern is prohibited” mean?



                         “Mass-Production of this Pattern is prohibited" sometimes pops up when you buy a doll pattern or a pattern of some kind. Generally, unless otherwise stated, it means that as long as the pattern you bought is only being used by one person on a home sewing machine/by hand, you can use the pattern to your heart's content.

               The buyer does not have permission to send the pattern to a manufacturer and have thousands of toys made.

               When you're buying a pattern (especially if you're planning to sell what you make in a shop) be on the look out for any extra requirements or stipulations.
        
                I've seen some plush toy patterns with the following requirements:

  •   Buyer is only allowed to make and sell X amount of dolls from said pattern
  •   Buyer can sell the product made from this pattern, but must also credit the original pattern creator
  •    etc.
